As the CNMI COVID-19 Task Force, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation (CHCC), and other agencies respond to the recent community transmission of COVID-19, Mount Carmel School is taking the following courses of action to best serve its employees, students, and community.
IMPORTANT TERMS
Despite recent events, our school community is fortunate for the length of time the MCS has been able to provide face-to-face learning. As we provide the school’s upcoming plans, the following terms might be helpful.
Synchronous Learning: An online class structure similar to that in an on-ground class, in which students meet with their instructor in real time and communicate with each other.
Asynchronous Learning: Learning in which interaction between instructors and students occurs intermittently with a time delay. Students in asynchronous courses are not required to log in at a specific time to watch a lecture or participate in a discussion, but rather can do their work on their own schedule.
Blended Learning (also Hybrid Learning): An education method that combines face-to-face education with online components.
Learning Management System: The platform where students can view their syllabus, learn how to contact their teacher and access most course materials, including online readings, videos, audio files and other resources. Students and parents can also email and message teachers.
ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING
From November 02 to 05, 2021, Mount Carmel School students will participate in asynchronous online work. There will not be any scheduled online Zoom classes next week. However, students will receive course work from their instructors through each class’s preferred learning management systems. Examples of these systems include Edmodo, Khan Academy, Acheieve3000, and IXL. Students and their parents are encouraged to reach out to their instructors for any clarifying questions about their assignments.

In the event that the public and private school’s ten-day closure extends, Mount Carmel School is facilitating a refresher training on Tuesday, November 02, 2021, for its employees regarding online learning and teaching platforms. No students will be allowed on campus.

MOUNT CARMEL SCHOOL’S SURVEILLANCE TESTING – OCTOBER 30, 2021
Mount Carmel School’s scheduled surveillance testing will continue as scheduled tomorrow, October 30, 2021, from 8:00am to 12:00pm at the Maturana building.
As part of Mount Carmel School’s efforts to keep its community safe, all Mount Carmel School employees will be required to get tested on this day. Unfortunately, due to the high demand of tests because of the recent positive cases, only pre-registered individuals will be tested and CHCC will not accept walk-ins for this event. However, CHCC and the COVID-19 Task Force is facilitating community surveillance testing at Kanoa Resort. We high recommend registering early will slots are limited.
Should the Office of the Governor, mandate an extension of campus closures before or after the tenth day on November 08, 2021, Mount Carmel School will transition to full-remote online synchronous learning on November 08, 2021. Teachers will contact their students and parents with the appropriate online codes and learning resources by Thursday, November 04, 2021. A special schedule will announced in advance.
DO OUR PART BY PRACTICING THE THREE Ws
We also urge all families to remain vigilant in their efforts to stop the spread with these three simple Ws:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Watch your distance by maintaining a physical distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and other people you don’t live with.
Wear a mask in public settings around people who don’t live in your household.
Should you have any questions and/or concerns, be sure to follow any of our media platforms linked below or reach out to us by email.
