MCS is the First School to Sign MOU
For Public Private Partnership Program

On Thursday, February 18, 2021, Mount Carmel School signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers Public Private Partnership Program to develop and maintain the Sugar Dock Beach. Mount Carmel School joins the CNMI Lions Club in sponsoring the beach as the first educational institution to sign up for the program to maintain and beautify some of CNMI's major tourist sites and attractions.

In response to the constricted tourist arrivals due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers views this period as an opportune time to reimagine the tourism product the CNMI offers and as an opportunity to build synergies between public and private stakeholders of CNMI.

The Public Private Partnership Program calls on public and private agencies to take ownership of maintaining and beautifying major tourist attractions in the CNMI.

“I commend the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers for initiating the Public Private Partnership program,” shared Mount Carmel School President Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero. “As a CNMI, we all have a shared interest in ensuring that the CNMI is a competitive destination in the tourist industry. Our school family takes great pride in joining this shared effort to maintain and beautify a major local and tourist attraction like Sugar Dock Beach.”

MCS senior and Eco Club president Brandee Hunter shared her excitement for the school’s joint efforts in the Public Private Partnership program stating, “When I learned about the PPPP, I was so excited that our school was the first to join this effort to clean, restore, and beautify our Commonwealth. What’s so special about this opportunity is that it calls on our community to take care of our land which I think will instill in everyone a sense of ownership in taking care of our environment.”
