NASON WESSEL TOPS BOYS SINGLES-12
NASON Wessel beat Yutaka Kadokura 6-2, 6-3 to win the Boy Singles-12 title in the 2021 White Coconut Classic on Sunday at the American Memorial Park tennis court.
Wessel and Kadokura seemed to be equally matched. And although both struggled to serve with precision, the match came down to a battle of exchanges where placement was the key.
Wessel kept up the pressure with deep returns, forcing Kadukura to retaliate with lobs and allowing Wessel to finish with smashes. Wessel’s continued assault gave him the first set, 6-2.
In the second set, Kadokura made a few adjustments and nearly turned the tide. He played smarter as he defended from deep down the court, and aimed for longer returns, forcing Wessel to commit errors.
However, it did not take long for Wessel to regain his footing and take charge once more. He capitalized in each opening and secured victory in the second set, 6-3.
Loken wins
In the Men's Singles-40, Peter Loken bested Tomas Abel in a tough duel.
Throughout Loken's journey to the finals, he was nearly unbeatable, taking down Paul Jang 6-0, 6-0 and Dong Min Lee 6-0, 6-2.
However, against Abel, it was a different story as he kept Loken on his toes.
Loken was the aggressor but Abel was able to withstand the onslaught and even switched roles with Loken every once in a while.
But despite Abel's efforts, Loken still managed to win the first set, 6-4.
Both players continued to give it their all in the second set, but Loken remained on top of his game, winning the set and the championship, 6-4.
