Dear Mount Carmel School Families,
May the Peace of Christ be with you!
As you know, inflation and rising costs have made it difficult for everyone in our community. Mount Carmel School has not been spared from this difficulty as the cost of instructional materials, utilities, and our services continue to rise as well, making it that much harder for our teachers and staff to provide an educational environment conducive to learning and growing.
Within the last nine years, Mount Carmel School has continued to live by its mission “to educate the whole person to see with Christ’s eyes,”, especially in times of struggle. Despite three major natural disasters, Super Typhoon Souldelor, Typhoon Mangkhut, Super Typhoon Yutu, the COVID-19 pandemic, and waves of economic uncertainty, Mount Carmel School has remained dedicated to supporting its students, employees, and families. During these difficult times, our Board of Directors and Leadership Team neither suspended nor removed programs that directly support the needs of its families. We have kept sponsorships, discounts, and scholarship opportunities available to the school community, all without raising tuition across the board since 2015–eight years ago.
However, despite our best efforts to cut costs, minimize expenses, and use the federal funds available, it has not been enough to keep pace with the rising cost of just about everything across the globe, the nation, the region, and our local community. That is why, for several weeks, we have engaged all our stakeholders—parents, students, faculty, administrators, and board members—in thorough discussions about the school’s tuition increase policy. It was important to hear from everyone in our school family about these critical issues.
Based on our discussions and extensive feedback from all of you, our stakeholders, and pursuant to the school’s tuition increase policy, we have decided to raise tuition at a very small rate of 2%, which adds up to only an additional $6.00 - $7.00 a month per student. With this minimal increase, Mount Carmel School will remain focused on a high-quality Catholic education that prepares and develops well-rounded students to be academically competitive individuals guided by humane and Christian values to make the world a better place.
Of course, we will continue to provide scholarships, financial aid, and appropriate discounts to students and families that qualify, and will continue exploring ways to cut costs and generate revenue. And, no matter what we do, we will always do our best to fulfill our mission, to educate the whole person to see with Christ’s eyes.
We thank you for your continued faith in our school, a faith we take to heart in our commitment to serving you, our students, and our Church.
Sincerely in Christ,
Frances T. Taimanao
