As Mount Carmel School prepares for the start of the 2021-2022 School Year, faculty and staff participated in an orientation and professional development at Kensington Hotel on August 02 and 03, 2021.

The purpose of the events was to welcome the school’s faculty and introduce key topics that will aid teachers in their duties and responsibilities throughout the academic year. Important topics during the professional development included school policies and procedures, Covid-19 mitigation guidelines, student affairs, how to effectively communicate with parents, child protection seminars, and the Student Council Officer’s presentation on promoting mental wellness in the classroom.

Acting president Ms. Frances Taimanao shared the importance of the event stating, “It is crucial that before the start of the school year, we promote a unified understanding of the school’s policies, procedures, and protocols. These last two days are meant to engage and support teachers as they prepare to welcome their students and families.”

Ninth-grade homeroom teacher Mr. Jonathan Sanchez shared, “The professional development events were very helpful. While this isn’t my first year as a teacher at MCS, the presentations were a helpful refresher and I was happy we got a chance to engage with student leaders prior to the start of the new school year.”

Second grade homeroom teacher Ms. Felisa Mendiolashared the impact Mount Carmel School’s student council officers made with their topic focused on mental health. “My greatest take away from our professional development was when STUCO actually came to talk to us about mental health awareness and how they would like to focus on its importance among our students and each other. I plan to utilize some of the methods and activities STUCO provided us with to foster social and emotional learning and improve and promote proper mental health in the classroom.”

The first day of classes for Mount Carmel School is scheduled for Thursday, August 12, 2021. Registration is ongoing for certain grade-levels.
