Mount Carmel School proudly recognizes her current senior Victoria Santos for earning candidacy for the United States Presidential Scholars Program and being a finalist for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
The United States Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 and is meant to recognize the accomplishments of some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors. Scholars are chosen based on their leadership and service within their school and community. Selected candidates are known to demonstrate exceptional scholarship; visual, creative, and performing arts talent; and accomplishment in career and technical fields.
Students chosen as U.S. Presidential Scholars receive an expense-paid trip to Washington, D. C. and are presented the U.S. Presidential Scholars medallion at a ceremony sponsored by the White House, in commemoration of their achievements.
The National Merit Scholarship program offers a $2500 award for graduating high school seniors who presented high PSAT/NMSQT test scores, a substantial application packet, and who have secured their admission for college. Students in the CNMI must be United States citizens in order to begin the application process.
“I never imagined how far my hard work would take me,” shared Victoria Santos. “I am truly blessed to have as many of the opportunities I have today and the support of my family, friends, and school community. It is truly humbling to earn as many of the achievements I have and I hope one day, I can give back to my community as it has already given so much to me.”
Mount Carmel School President Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero shared, “Victoria Santos is truly one of our brightest and most devoted students who is deserving of every opportunity and accomplishment she’s achieved thus far. Despite all of what 2020 and 2021 has thrown her way, she’s kept her drive and focus on her goals. While I want to take pride in what Mount Carmel School has done to help her succeed, it is so important to recognize the immense support she has from her parents and her family. Victoria will go far in everything she sets her mind to and we’re excited to witness the next chapter of her academic and personal journey.”
Victoria Santos will graduate from Mount Carmel School in May 2021 and is preparing to attend Rice University with a full-ride scholarship through the Questbridge Program.
