Mount Carmel School recently announced her student council leaders for the 2021-2022 school year.
The MCS Student Council (STUCO) is responsible for organizing activities, which build school pride, spirit, and unity. STUCO, acting as the voice of the student body, provides a channel through which ideas from students in all grades can be expressed and shared. The STUCO president is also a member of the school’s leadership team to serve as the voice of the student body.
The elected officers for the 2021-2022 school year are Kyla Monique Cabrera as president, Theresa Schweiger as vice president, Fiona Bucalig as treasurer, Aleia Santos as secretary, and Christian Guerrero as moderator.
Upcoming STUCO president Kyla Cabrera shared that she ran for president to give back to MCS with the goal to safely reinstate more school clubs and additional extracurricular activities during this pandemic.
“I wish to give students a better sense of comfortability at school and to be more active in and out of the classroom,” shared Kyla.
As vice president, Theresa Schweiger aims to advocate for mental health and “ to ensure that they have a less stressful and better year. Given that the school has been through a lot this past year, I hope to give them a year they will enjoy. Most importantly, I look forward to working with my team to create a safe atmosphere for students to feel welcome.”
STUCO secretary Aleia Santos commented on how Mount Carmel School prepared her for this role stating, “MCS has given me the tools I need to not only listen to criticism, but grow from it too. To me, that’s what STUCO is all about: learning and growing as we serve our school in new and exciting ways.”
Fiona Bucalig who will serve as the treasurer shared her hopes for next school year and shared, “I’ve been at MCS ever since my kindergarten years. I’ve grown up within the school, learning from amazing role models who I am lucky to call my teachers. I hope every student prepares themselves to step out of their comfort zone. Next school year will be the time we all discover and better ourselves, and of course, spread school spirit. To the student body of Mount Carmel School, let’s make next school year one we will all surely treasure!”
MCS moderator Christian Guerrero shared his own expectations of the school stating, “ My hope for next school year is to introduce new ideas that can grow into long term changes at Mount Carmel School. Collaboration with the school’s leadership team and enthusiasm is something that I value very much as a student leader.”
Mount Carmel School’s Director of Institutional Development, Ms. Victoria Deleon Guerrero, otherwise known as Ms. V, will serve as the STUCO advisor for the upcoming school year. In previous years, school president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero has served as the STUCO advisor and helped previous STUCO officers launch new programs including School Tours and an Ambassador program.
